Children's Hospital Boston is a 396-bed comprehensive center for pediatric health care. The Children's team advances the care of children globally through new discoveries, training the next generation of pediatric specialists and promoting the health and well being of families in local communities. As one of the largest pediatric medical centers in the United States, Children's offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 21 years of age. Children's is home to the world's largest research enterprise based at a pediatric medical center, where its discoveries have benefited both children and adults since 1869.
More than 1,100 scientists, including 9 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 13 members of the Institute of Medicine and 15 members of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute comprise Children's research community. Children's also is the primary pediatric teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School.
